House Signs on For Third Season in Duluth

May 2, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies

The Duluth Huskies today announced the signing of outfielder Chris House and infielder Thomas Nichols from the Georgia Institute of Technology, commonly known as Georgia Tech. The 2008 season will mark House’s third season in Duluth.

A native of Marietta, Georgia, House will once again be patrolling the outfield grass for the Duluth Huskies in 2008. The 6’0, 200 pound right handed batter hit .274 in 61 games for the Huskies in 2007 finishing second on the team in hits (58), RBIs (25) and walks (31). The junior Management major also stole 17 bases. Currently, for the 31-13 Yellow Jackets House is batting .256 and is 5 for 6 in stolen base attempts. He also has not committed an error while tallying four outfield assists this spring. The Huskies are happy to have House’s veteran leadership back in the fold for the 2008 season as well as his strong bat and speed on the base paths. It should also be noted that when away from the ballpark, House enjoys skydiving as an emotional release.

Joining House from the Ramblin’ Wreck is freshman infielder Thomas Nichols. The Leesburg, Georgia native will be making his Northwoods League debut this summer for the Huskies but already is bringing a strong history of winning games and making big plays. Nichols is currently batting .305 for the Yellow Jackets and has appeared in 40 of the teams 44 games. While in high school at Lee County High School, Nichols was named his teams MVP in 2006 and 2007 and was All-Area Player of the Year in 2007. The Huskies will be looking for Nichols to have the same sort of immediate impact he is having at Georgia Tech when he first steps onto the pristine green grass of the Wade this summer.

The 2008 Season will mark the sixth season of Northwoods League Baseball in Duluth and the Huskies have advanced to the playoffs in three of the last four seasons. The 2008 Season opens Thursday, May 29th in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Huskies home opener is Saturday, May 31st at 7:35 PM against the Thunder Bay Border Cats.
