Blue Thunder Rolls
Over
Duluth
July 18, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies faced off against the Brainerd Blue Thunder for
the second of two games scheduled to be played in Brainerd before
both teams make the trip to Duluth for two more game on Friday and
Saturday night at the Wade.
Following a tough 6-4 loss at the hands of Brainerd on Wednesday
the Huskies were hoping for better luck on Thursday, unfortunately
things
actually turned even more sour as Brainerd jumped out to a 1-0
lead in the first and built from there eventually defeating Duluth
by the score of 10-2.
The Huskies sent starting pitcher Tim Statz (2-1) to the
mound for the start and Statz allowed three runs, only two
of them earned, on seven hits while walking two and striking out
three en route to picking up his first loss of the season.
Sam Murphy worked the sixth inning allowing three runs, all
earned, on two hits while walking three before Andy Hamilton
worked the seventh surrendering four runs, all earned on five hits
while walking one. Robby Price (pictured left) made
his debut on the mound in 2008 working a scoreless eighth inning
without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out one.
At the plate the Huskies were led by 2008 Northwoods League
All-Star Chris House who went four for five with a run
scored from the leadoff spot. Third baseman Andy Burns
also added two hits to the Huskies cause. Price and
catcher Moises Montero had the two RBIs for Duluth.
The Huskies and Blue Thunder will now travel to Duluth for two
games on Friday and Saturday night at beautiful Wade Stadium in
sunny West Duluth, Minnesota. On both days the gates open at
6:05 PM. On Friday, the Huskies will welcome nationally
known mascot act Rally on Superior Night, presented by the
Superior Jaycee's! Saturday will be Mini Bat Night presented
by the Minnesota Forest Industries and Minnesota Timber Producers.

The Duluth Huskies made the trip to Brainerd, Minnesota on
Wednesday following the 2008 Northwoods League All-Star Break and
were greeted by a record crowd of 1,104 people at Brainerd's Mills
Field.
The Huskies fell behind in the first on a wild pitch and were not
able to climb back on top of the Blue Thunder eventually losing by
the score of 6-4.
The Huskies will face off against the Blue Thunder again on
Thursday at 6:35 PM in Brainerd as they look to get back to .500

Rain Leads to
Huskies Loss
July 11, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies made the trip down to Mankato, Minnesota on
Friday night to start a two-game series against the First Half
North Division Champion Mankato MoonDogs. The Huskies were
greeted by temperatures in the 90's but they would soon learn how
quickly the
weather
can change in Minnesota as the game with the MoonDogs was cut
short after only six innings played, giving Mankato the 7-3 win.
Duluth sent University of Nebraska starting pitcher Mike
Nesseth (pictured left)to the mound looking to get back on the
winning track after being swept by the the hottest team in the
Northwoods League, the St. Cloud River Bats. Nesseth
was greeted by some hot swinging MoonDog bats who touched him for
five runs on eight hits while walking one and not striking out a
single batter in four innings of work. Nesseth was
then relieved by Grant Muncrief who worked the next two
innings allowing two more Mankato runs on two hits while walking
three and striking out three.
The Huskies offense was able to battle back after falling behind
early scoring a run in the top of the third and two more in the
top of the sixth, but that's when the storm front ran through
Mankato pounding the field with rain and hail making the field
unplayable. Unfortunately for Duluth, the game had reached
the point of becoming a complete game meaning a win for Mankato.
The Huskies and Mankato will face off again on Saturday night
starting at 7:05 PM in the second game of the two-game series and
the last game before the Northwoods League's three day All-Star
break highlighted by the All-Star Game taking place on Monday,
July 14th in Madison, Wisconsin. The Huskies will send
starting pitcher Matt Benedict looking to send Duluth into
the break on a winning note.

Huskies Fall Short
Against River Bats
July 10, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies wrapped up their season long eight game
homestand at Wade Stadium on Thursday night facing the North
Division leading St. Cloud River Bats in the second game of the
scheduled two game series.
After
some light rain showers early in the day the sun broke through the
clouds late in the afternoon leaving no doubt that there would be
baseball played, unfortunately for Duluth the Huskies bats weren't
able to break through like the sun against the River Bats.
Duluth sent starting pitcher Aaron Barrett (pictured left),
a 2008 draftee of the Minnesota Twins, to the mound for the start
and he did not have his best stuff early as St. Cloud was able to
jump head to a lead and despite settling down in the mid-innings
and keeping the River Bats within striking distance it proved to
be too deep of a hole as the Huskies fell by the score of 7-4.
The Huskies offense knocked out 10 hits in the game, led by
designated hitter Tim Jobe (pictured right) who went three
for three with two singles
and a RBI double. Jobe is one of two Huskies who have
been selected to play in the 2008 Northwoods League All-Star Game
which will be played on Monday, July 14th in Madison, Wisconsin,
joined by outfielder Chris House.
The Huskies will now travel to Mankato to take on the First Half
North Division Champion Mankato MoonDogs in a two-game series
before heading into the All-Star break. On Friday Duluth
will send University of Nebraska pitcher Mike Nesseth to
the mound looking to bring the Huskies back on the winning track.
Both games in Mankato are scheduled to start at 7:05 PM.

River Bats Silence
the Huskies
July 9, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies welcomed the first place St. Cloud River Bats
to historic Wade Stadium in Duluth on an Arby's Roast Beef
Wednesday as both teams entered the series hot as St. Cloud was
9-1 in their last 10
games
and Duluth was 7-3 in the same span.
Josh Godfrey (pictured left) got the start for Duluth and
threw the ball great allowing only a single run in the third
inning on a wild pitch. After that it was all St. Cloud
pitching as the River Bats silenced the Huskies bats by completing
the shutout and allowing only two hits for Duluth, one off the bat
of Collin Kuhn and one from first baseman Thomas Nichols.
Chris House, who was named to the All-Star team on
Wednesday, reached base three times walking twice and reaching on
an error.
The Huskies and River Bats will be back at it again on Thursday at
the Wade starting at 7:05 PM as the Huskies Aaron Barrett
will head to the mound for the start. Wednesday will also
mark Famous Dave's Backyard BBQ Night as Famous Dave's will take
over the Kennel Klub Sports Deck menu all night long with only the
most mouthwatering BBQ in town. Gates open at 6:05 PM.

Huskies Notable Notes
- With the Huskies retiring the number 5 on Tuesday night in honor of
Joey Bonadonna, who played for seasons in Duluth and still
holds seven Duluth Huskies career records, only two players will
have worn that number for Duluth. Bonadonna and
infielder Dale Legaspi from the University of Southern
California, who wore number 5 during the Huskies 2003 and 2004
seasons the teams first two in existence, are the only players to
have worn the number.
How Sweep it is!
July 8, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies and the Madison Mallards faced off again on
Tuesday night at historic Wade Stadium in Duluth in the second
game of the scheduled two game series after the Huskies have taken
the first three games of the season series and before the game the
Huskies honored former Duluth Huskies star and four year player
Joey Bonadonna, who now plays for the Mallards of the South
Division, as Duluth retired the #5 which was worn by Bonadonna
during his entire
time
in Duluth. Unfortunately for Bonadonna's new team, Madison,
Duluth has had their number here in 2008 and it continued again on
Tuesday as Duluth swept the season series with a 3-0 win.
The story of the game turned out to be the Duluth Huskies pitching
staff who had five pitchers combine in the shutout. It all
started with starting pitcher T.J. Walz (pictured left) who
worked the first five innings, absolutely dominated the Mallards
bats, and earned his first win of the season running his record to
1-3. Walz gave way to Andy Hamilton who walked
two batters before Sam Murphy from the University of
Arkansas came in and got out of a tough bases loaded, no outs jam
in the sixth inning. Murphy later passed the shutout
baton to Evan Cox, also from the University of Arkansas,
who continued keeping Madison off the scorebooks before Mitch
Mormann came in to pitch the ninth inning, slamming the door
shut and sealing the Huskies win by getting Joey Bonadonna to
ground
into a fielders choice for the final out of the game.
The Huskies offense made the most of its opportunities on this
night pushing across three runs on nine hits, two off the bat of
Robby Price and RBI singles from both Todd Baumgartner
(pictured right) and Moises Montero, who picked up his
first RBI of the season.
The Huskies will continue their home stand on Wednesday night on
another Arby's Roast Beef Wednesday when the St. Cloud River Bats
come to the Wade for their first trip to Duluth in the 2008
season. Gates will open at 6:05 PM as the first 500 fans
through the gates will receive a coupon for a buy one, get one

Huskies Shoot Down
Mallards
July 7, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies returned to the field on Monday night in Duluth
after an off day on Sunday as the Madison Mallards came to town
for the first and only time of the 2008 regular season. The
Mallards arrived in town with a familiar face as former Duluth
Huskies second baseman and Northwoods
League
career stolen base leader Joey Bonadonna returned to Duluth, this
time as a member of the Mallards. On this night; however,
the spotlight remained on the Huskies as Duluth was able to keep
the Mallards grounded for most of the night and was able to pull
out the 4-1 victory over the South Division's First Half Champion.
The Huskies were led by starting pitcher Tim Statz
(pictured left) who ran his record to 2-0 in his first two starts
as he worked six scoreless innings before giving way to reliever
Grant Muncrief from Wichita State University.
Muncrief was also able to keep the Mallards off the scoreboard
and Duluth was able to hold the shutout until Madison forced one
across with two outs in the ninth inning off of relief pitcher
Erik Anderson.
Offensively, the Huskies were able to get Statz the lead
early and added some insurance later leading 4-0 before Madison
picked up its lone run in the ninth on the same night Huskies
first baseman Tim Jobe was named to the 2008 Northwoods
League All-Star team.
In the field Huskies catcher Moises Montero (pictured
right) threw out Bonadonna trying to steal and held on to the ball
on a potential run scoring play for Madison early that would have
given Madison a 1-0 lead. Montero absorbed the
collision and showed the ball to the umpire before trotting off
the field.
The Huskies and Mallards will be at it again on Tuesday night at
Wade Stadium in Duluth as the Huskies present another Two Dollar
Tuesday when fans will receive $2 off of general admission
tickets. Tickets can be purchased online at

Huskies Hit Jackpot
in Vegas Night Win
July 3, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies took a great start from University of Nebraska
pitcher Mike Nesseth (pictured left) and rallied late to
defeat the North Division's
First
Half Champion Mankato MoonDogs in walk off fashion by the score of
2-1 on a hard hit single up the middle off the bat of Tim Jobe.
Nesseth worked quickly and efficiently through the MoonDogs lineup
allowing only a single run in the top of the fourth inning that
gave Mankato a 1-0 lead. Duluth was able to answer back with
a tying run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Steve
Chatwood ripped a double to deep left center field driving
home Todd Baumgartner from second base. Relief
pitcher Mitch Mormann then entered the game in the ninth
and kept Mankato off the board setting up the late inning heroics
for for Duluth. Andy Burns drew a lead off walk to
start the Huskies half of the ninth, Chris House then bunted
Burns to second bring up Thomas Nichols who walked
bringing Jobe to the plate with runners on first and second
and one out. Jobe then turned around a MoonDog pitch
driving it straight up the middle just out of the reach of the
outstretched arm of the MoonDogs middle infielders allowing Burns
to score from second base and giving the Huskies the 2-1 victory.
The win brings the Huskies second half record to 1-1.
Duluth will enjoy a day off on Sunday before welcoming the South
Division's First Half Champion Madison Mallards to the Wade for a
pair of games on Monday and Tuesday with both games starting at
7:05 PM. Monday will bring Turn Back the Clock Night
presented by MPECU as the "Duluth Dukes" will take on the "Madison
Blues" in a throwback game to yesteryear. Tuesday will be

game, and remember you can purchase your tickets in advance right

MoonDogs Bite
Huskies Winning Streak
July 2, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies looked to get the second half off to a strong
start after finishing the first half of the 2008 Northwoods League
season with a 12-22 record but most importantly they finished the
first half winning four of their last five and looked to keep that
momentum going. The Huskies looked to keep that going on
Friday, the 4th of July, when they welcomed
the
First Half North Division Champion Mankato MoonDogs to the Wade to
kick off the second half of the 2008 campaign.
The Huskies sent Minnesota Twins draftee, Aaron Barrett
(pictured left), to the mound for the start and Barrett,
with former Minnesota Twins General Manager Terry Ryan in
attendance, threw well going eight strong innings allowing only
three MoonDog runs, but unfortunately for Barrett and the
Huskies the offense was only able to push across one run as they
dropped their second half opener by the score of 4-1.
The Huskies and MoonDogs will be back at it on the field of Wade
Stadium on Saturday for Vegas Night presented by KOOL 101.7 as the
Huskies will be giving away two trips for two to Las Vegas on

Huskies Sweep First
Half into the Books
July 2, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies have been looking forward to wrapping up the
first half of the 208 Northwoods League season for a while now as
early losses
came
back to hurt the Huskies first half playoff chances, but Duluth
put a positive end to the first half with a three game winning
streak capped off by a 5-4 victory over the Alexandria Beetles on
Thursday night at Wade Stadium in Duluth.
Huskies relief pitcher Andy Hamilton (pictured left) picked
up his third win of the season working in relief of starting
pitcher Matt Benedict. Mitch Mormann worked a
scoreless ninth inning to pick up his second save of the season.
At the plate the Huskies were paced by left fielder Todd
Baumgartner (pictured right) who went 3 for 4 with a run
scored, a RBI, and a stolen base. Second baseman Thomas
Nichols, from Georgia Tech, also had a strong showing with two
singles while walking twice, a RBI and a run
scored. Chris House, also from Georgia Tech, added a
walk and a RBI and first baseman Tim Jobe added a single a
scored a run in the Huskies win.
The Huskies, along with the rest of the Northwoods League, will
start anew on Friday as they prepare to take on First Half North
Division Champion Mankato with both teams sporting a 0-0 record.
Duluth will look to continue the positive momentum they picked up
as they finished the first half with three straight wins as they
send Minnesota Twins draftee Aaron Barrett to the mound on
Hometown Heroes Night presented by Nordic Waste and B-105.

The Price is Right
for Huskies Walk-off
July 2, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies returned to Wade Stadium on Wednesday night to
start a season long eight game homestand, and due first up was the
Alexandria Beetles.
The Huskies sent Brad Buehler to the mound for the start
against the
Beetles
and Alexandria jumped ahead 2-0 with two runs in the third inning
off of Buehler before the Huskies started to come back with
a run in the bottom of the fifth and the bottom of the sixth tying
the score at 2-2. That set the stage for a dramatic ninth
inning as Robby Price (pictured left) took center stage as
he stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and one out.
Price then ripped a hit just down the third base line that
careened off of third base as Steve Chatwood trotted home
with the game winning run.
Tim Jobe (pictured right), who pitched scoreless eighth and
ninth innings, earned the win in relief of Erik Anderson.
Anderson relieved Buehler to start the fifth
inning and posted zeroes in both the fifth and the
sixth setting the stage for the dramatic Huskies win.
The Huskies will face the Beetles again on Thursday night at the
Wade starting at 7:05 PM with the gates opening at 6:05 PM for
Minnesota Twins Night at the Wade as TC Bear and the Minnesota
Twins organist will be on hand to entertain as well as some
fantastic giveaways will be handed out as fans enter the gates.

the second game of a two-game series in St. Cloud, Minnesota on
Tuesday night on the day after the host River Bats pounded Duluth
by the score of 11-1, tonight; however, proved to be a new day for
the Huskies as they got their revenge defeating the River Bats by
the score of 7-2 behind the
strong
pitching of Tim Statz (1-0) and two homeruns by leadoff

The Huskies offence gave Statz an early lead with those two
homeruns from House and a shot from team homerun leader Tim

St. Cloud Unlucky
for Visiting Huskies
June 30, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies made the trip to St. Cloud, Minnesota on Monday
to start a two game Northwoods League series against North
Division rival, the St. Cloud River Bats. The Huskies
entered the game on the heels on a victory over the Waterloo Bucks
on Sunday, defeating the road weary Bucks by the score of 3-2.
Things didn't work out quite as well for Duluth on Sunday in St.
Cloud as they fell behind early and quickly found themselves in a
deep hole that was too deep to climb out of eventually falling by
the score of 11-1.
The Huskies and River Bats will continue their series at 7:05 PM
in St. Cloud again on Tuesday night as the Huskies look to move
closer to the start of the second half of the 2008 Northwoods
League season which starts on Friday.
The Huskies return to Wade Stadium in Duluth on Wednesday to start
a stretch of eight games in nine days, starting with a two game
set against the Alexandria Beetles when fans will be able to enjoy

Huskies Back on
Winning Track
June 29, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies and the Waterloo Bucks played the second of
their scheduled two-game series in Duluth's Wade Stadium on Sunday
afternoon with Duluth entering the game on a six game losing
streak. The Huskies luck seemed to change on Sunday;
however, as the home
team
drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning and
held on to defeat the Bucks by the score of 3-2.
Huskies starting pitcher Josh Godfrey (pictured left)
pitched brilliantly for the home team on Sunday allowing only two
unearned runs over eight innings on only four hits while walking
four and striking out seven Waterloo batters while earning his
first win of the 2008 Northwoods League season. Relief
pitcher Mitch Mormann, who was drafted by the Cleveland
Indians in the 2008 MLB First Year Players Draft held earlier in
June, worked a perfect ninth inning getting the Bucks to go three
up and three down for his first save of the season.
The Huskies offense was led by first baseman Tim Jobe
(pictured right) who led off the bottom of the fourth inning with
a solo blast that extended
the Huskies lead at the time to 2-0. Jobe also later
walked to lead off the eighth and scored the eventual game winning
run on right fielder Ty Main's sacrifice fly. Cather
Steve Chatwood and shortstop Robby Price each also
added two hits to the Huskies winning cause on a Cub Foods and
Duluth News Tribune Family Fun Day!
The Huskies will look to continue their winning ways on Monday as
they travel to St. Cloud, Minnesota to start a two game series
against the St. Cloud River Bats on Monday and Tuesday nights,
both games scheduled to start at 7:05 PM.

Huskies Return
Home, Fall to Bucks
June 28, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies returned to Wade Stadium for the annual
tradition that has become Boy Scout Night, and they were greeted
by 1,768 fired up Huskies fans ready to cheer them on.
Unfortunately for both the home team and the passionate fans, the
Waterloo Bucks rolled into town with
ideas
of spoiling the home crowds fun.
The Huskies sent University of Kansas pitcher T.J. Walz
(pictured left) to the mound who has put up some great numbers,
but is still in search of his first win. It proved to be
more of the same for Walz on Saturday night as he threw
well for six innings, allowing only three runs on six hits while
walking four and striking out eight, but he still came up on the
losing end of the scoreboard dropping to 0-3 on the season as the
Bucks pulled off the 5-0 victory.
At the plate the Huskies bats were silenced for much of the night
only managing two hits, both off of Bucks starting pitcher Cam
Nobles. Second baseman Thomas Nichols and right
fielder Ty Main picked up the hits for Duluth.
The Huskies will face off against the Bucks again tomorrow
afternoon starting at 4:05 PM at Wade Stadium as Cub Foods and the
Duluth News Tribune present another Family Fun Day! A family
of four can enjoy the game, four hot dogs, four small sodas, and
two inflatable game vouchers! It's the perfect Sunday
afternoon! The Huskies will look to get back on the winning
track with starting pitcher Josh Godfrey taking the mound.
We'll see you at the Wade!

Huskies Can't Close
the Door on the Cats
June 27, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies faced off against the Thunder Bay Border Cats
for the second straight game on Friday night in Thunder Bay,
Ontario and
things
were looking good for Duluth as they were able to jump out to an
early lead behind a two run blast off the bat of Tim Jobe
(pictured left) and the pitching of starting pitcher Mike
Nesseth (picture right).
Nesseth, who looked downright dominating at times, worked eight
solid innings and left the game with the Huskies holding on to a
3-2 lead over the host Border Cats, but Thunder Bay clawed back
with a run in the ninth off of relief pitcher Evan Cox
tying the game at 3 before pushing across the winning run in the
bottom of the tenth handing the Huskies their fifth straight loss,
and possibly the most
gut wrenching.
The Huskies will return to Duluth Saturday night at 7:05 PM as
they face off against the Waterloo Bucks for Bucket Hat Giveaway
night presented by North Shore Bank of Commerce. Saturday
will also be Boy Scout Night as Boy Scouts from all over the Twin
Ports on hand to cheer on the Huskies and to spend the night on
the outfield grass. The Huskies will be looking to get back
on the winning track as they will send University of Kansas
starting pitcher T.J. Walz back to the mound as Walz
has been the tough luck loser in previous starts but will look to
change all of that on Saturday. Gates open at the Wade at
6:05 PM.

Comeback Falls Short
June 26, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies traveled north of the border on Thursday to
face off against the Thunder Bay Border Cats in the first of a
scheduled two game series set to take place on both Thursday and
Friday nights at 6:05 PM Central in Thunder Bay. The Huskies
entered the series reeling from
three
straight losses, including a recent sweep at the hands of the La
Crosse Loggers at home.
The Huskies sent Minnesota Twins draftee Aaron Barrett
(pictured left) to the mound looking to settle things down and get
Duluth back in the win column, a place where they had grown
accustomed during the team's time in the Northwoods League.
Unfortunately for Barrett and Duluth, the Thunder Bay
Border Cats were not in a giving mood as the host Cats jumped out
to a 4-0 half way through the game and were able to hold stave off
a Huskies rally and then added an insurance run in the eighth
handing Duluth their fourth straight loss by the score of 5-3.
The Huskies and Border Cats will go at it once again on Friday
night in Thunder Bay with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 PM
Central. Duluth is looking to gain valuable experience
during the seven remaining games of the first half before finding
that magical formula for half number two.
Following the Huskies game in Thunder Bay on Friday the team will
return to the Wade for a pair of games against the Waterloo Bucks
on Saturday and Sunday night. Saturday's game, a scheduled
7:05 PM start, will feature a Bucket Hat Giveaway presented by
North Shore Bank of Commerce and Sunday, a 4:05 PM scheduled
start, will be another Cub Foods and Duluth News Tribune Family
Fun Day at the Wade featuring the Singing Slovenes who will be on
hand with a pregame concert outside of the stadium's main gates.

Loggers Slam
Huskies for Sweep
June 25, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies and the La Crosse Loggers played the second of
a two game series on Wednesday night in front of the fifth largest
crowd in Duluth Huskies history at Wade Stadium. 3,239 fans
showed up on Fresh Air Night at the Wade, presented by the
American Lung Association, unfortunately for the Huskies the
Huskies would end up at the short end of a 12-3 final score.
It was prett y
much all Loggers all night long in Duluth, sparked by a third
inning grand slam off the bat of Cory Vaughn off of Huskies
starting pitcher, Sam Murphy, that put Duluth behind by the
score of 5-0.
At the plate for the Huskies shortstop Robby Price
(pictured left), from the University of Kansas, had a couple of
hits to pace Duluth. The Huskies proved to have some fight
in their belly as they never gave up and scratched out two runs in
the bottom of the ninth, but it proved to be too little too late.
The Huskies will now take their show on the road as they will
travel north of the border to face the Thunder Bay Border Cats in
a two game set on Thursday and Friday night. Game time
Thursday is 6:05 PM Central.

Loggers Prove to be
Unwelcomed Guests
June 24, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies returned to play on Tuesday night at Wade
Stadium in Duluth as the La Crosse Loggers came to town for the
first of a two game series against the host Huskies following an
off day on Monday, but the Loggers proved to be unwelcomed guests
in Duluth as the
Loggers
defeated Duluth by the score of 7-4.
The Huskies sent Abel Gonzales (picture left) to the mound
and Gonzales threw well as he consistently threw strikes,
which was a theme for the entire Huskies pitching staff on
Tuesday, as he didn't walk a single batter. Unfortunately,
the Loggers brought their wood to Duluth and were able to pound
out 14 hits and make the most of Duluth's four errors scoring
seven runs.
The Huskies offense was streaky on Tuesday, knocking out 10 hits,
but seemed to come that one big hit short as they were only able
to score four runs, even leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of
the ninth inning.
The Huskies and La Crosse Loggers will face off once again on
Wednesday night in Duluth for Fresh Air Night at Wade Stadium
presented by the American Lung Association as Wade Stadium will go
smoke free on Wednesday night in Duluth. It's also another
Arby's Roast Beef Wednesday when the first 500 fans through the
gates will receive a coupon for a buy one, get one free roast beef
at Arby's of Duluth.
The Huskies will sent University of Arkansas pitcher Sam Murphy
to the mound as Duluth will look to get back on the winning track
that they were able to find during this most recent road trip.

Huskies Wrap Up
Road Trip
June 23, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies finished their four-game road trip on Sunday
evening in Brainerd, Minnesota with a record of 3-1 in the four
games, after dropping the finale to the Brainerd Blue Thunder by
the score of 6-5 in 11
innings.
Right fielder Andrew Durden (pictured left) led the Huskies
charge for a series sweep, going 4 for 4 with two RBIs, but the
Huskies would end up falling just short. Center fielder
Chris House continued his hot hitting since returning to
Duluth for his third season with two hits and a run scored while
Left fielder Todd Baumgartner also added two hits and a run
scored to the Huskies cause.
On the mound starting pitcher Josh Godfrey started out
strong, but his six walks back to haunt him in the fifth inning as
the Blue Thunder were able to push across four runs in the inning,
with the first two being charged to Godfrey. For the
game Godfrey worked four innings allowing three runs on
four hits while walking six and striking out two. Erik
Anderson worked the next 1/3 of the inning allowing one run
without allowing a hit. He was followed by rubber armed
reliever Brant Combs who completed the fifth inning and
worked into the sixth allowing one run on two hits while walking
one. Evan Cox, from the University of Arkansas,
worked the final 4 1/3 innings surrendering only the game winning
run in the bottom of the 10th, an unearned run, while walking four
and striking out four.
The Huskies will enjoy a day off on Monday before taking the field
once again on Tuesday night in Duluth for another Two Dollar
Tuesday when fans will receive $2 off of any General Admission
ticket to that game. Gates will open at 6:05 PM with first
pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM as the Huskies will face the La Crosse

Huskies Chop Down
Blue Thunder
June 22, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies traveled from Madison, Wisconsin to Brainerd,
Minnesota to continue their road trip with a pair of games against
the Brainerd Blue Thunder on Saturday and Sunday. The
Huskies kept the good vibrations of the current road trip going on
Saturday night as they battled back once again and then started
piling it on to Brainerd winning
their
third game in a row by the score of 11-5.
Catcher Steve Chatwood (pictured left), from the University
of San Diego, was the key offensive producer for Duluth on
Saturday even though he had only one hit. For the day,
Chatwood went 1 for 2 with a run scored and five RBIs.
Leftfielder Todd Baumgartner had four hits and scored three
runs while first baseman Tim Jobe went 3 for 5 with two
runs scored and two RBIs.
Relief pitcher Andy Hamilton (2-0), from Rice University,
picked up the win working in relief of starting pitcher T.J.
Walz. Matt Benedict, Brant Combs, and
Mitch Mormann all also made relief appearance in the game for
Duluth.
The Huskies will sent Josh Godfrey to the mound for
Sunday's series finale against the Blue Thunder, game time is set
for 5:35 PM in Brainerd. The Huskies will then enjoy an off
day on Monday before returning to action on Tuesday and Wednesday
at Wade Stadium in Duluth for a pair of games against the La

Huskies Shoot Down
Mallards Again
June 21, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies faced off against the South Division's Madison
Mallards in the second game of the two-game series in Madison,
Wisconsin on Friday night, and for the second straight game the
Huskies found a way to end up on top of the score at the end of
the night.
The Huskies sent starting pitcher Mike Nesseth (pictured
left), a
Windom,
Minnesota native, to the mound and Nesseth kept the
Mallards off balance for much of the night posting zeros though
the first five innings before running into some trouble in the
sixth inning. In that sixth inning the Mallards were able to
push across three runs taking the lead, which the Huskies had held
with a fifth inning run, by the score of 3-1. Duluth;
however, came back with a vengeance scoring five runs in the top
of the seventh taking the lead for good. The Huskies added
two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth bringing the final
score to 8-3 in favor of the visitor's from Duluth.
Offensively, Chris House and Andrew Durden each had
two hit games with a run scored an a RBI. Robby Price
and Thomas Nichols each had a hit, a run scored and a RBI.
While on the mound relief pitcher Brant Combs (2-3) picked
up the win in relief.
The Huskies will now travel to Brainerd, Minnesota to take on the
Brainerd Blue Thunder in a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday
before having a day off on Monday and then returning to the Wade

Nine is Enough as
Huskies Win
June 19, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies made the trip to Madison, Wisconsin on Thursday
after
dropping
nine straight games and Huskies starting pitcher Aaron Barrett
(pictured left), a 20th Round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins,
slammed the door shut on that street as he tossed eight innings
allowing only one Mallards run leading the Huskies to a 5-1 win.
Barrett allowed six hits over his eight innings of work
keeping the South Division's Madison Mallards off balance for most
of the night as he struck out four and walked only two.
Barrett was relieved by Erik Anderson, from the
University of Nebraska, who closed the game with a scoreless ninth
inning striking out one batter.
Offensively the Huskies were able to take the lead in the top of
the fourth inning when Thomas Nichols ripped a RBI double that
scored centerfielder Chris House (pictured right).
Duluth then added two more in
the top of the fifth after Tim Jobe led the inning off with
a solo homer and later House drove home Collin Kuhn making the game 3-0. The top of
the sixth brought another Huskies run when Todd Baumgartner
scored on an Andrew Durden RBI double. The fifth
Huskies run scored in the top of the ninth when Andy Burns
drove home Kuhn again making the final score 5-1 in favor
of the visitor's from Duluth. For the game, House
went 4 for 4 leading the offense from the leadoff spot, good
enough to earn the Northwoods League Player of the Night honor,
becoming the first Huskies player in 2008 to be honored as such.
The Huskies shut down the Mallards in front of 5,275 in Madison on
Thursday night and the two teams will meet once again on Friday in
Madison. The Huskies will send second year player, Mike
Nesseth to the mound as they look to complete their first
sweep since sweeping the Green Bay Bullfrogs back on June 2nd and
3rd. The Huskies will then travel to Brainerd for a pair of
games on Saturday and Sunday before returning to the Wade on

Bombers Come Back
to Down Huskies
June 18, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies entered the day on Wednesday thinking that this
Arby's Roast Beef Wednesday would be the day that the team would
bust out of the current funk that seems to keep the team on the
short end of the score but, alas, the visiting Battle Creek
Bombers fought back in the eighth
and
ninth innings to down Duluth by the score of 7-5. The loss
is the Huskies ninth consecutive loss.
Things looked bright early as the team jumped out to a 4-0 lead in
the first inning and held on to a 5-4 lead heading into the
eighth, but the Bombers scored one run in the eighth and two more
in the ninth as they sealed their 7-5 victory.
On the mound the Huskies pitching staff, led by starter Abel
Gonzales (pictured left) seemed to find it's control back
walking only two batters for the game, but some untimely errors as
well as the inability to push across many more runs all added up
to another day with Duluth on the short end of the score.
Offensively the Huskies were led by third baseman Robby
Price (pictured right) who was 2 for 3 with a RBI and first
baseman Tim Jobe who also added two hits and a RBI.
The Huskies will now take their show on the road as they will
travel to Madison, Wisconsin for games on Thursday and Friday

Bombers Capitalize
on Huskies Miscues
June 17, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies managed to outhit their opponent for the second
straight game but once again walks and errors put the team too far
behind the eight ball as the Huskies fell for the eighth
consecutive game, this time to the Battle Creek Bombers.
The Bombers were making their first ever appearance in Duluth's
Wade Stadium, as the two teams never met during 2007, Battle
Creek's
inaugural
season in the Northwoods League. The Bombers seemed to enjoy
their surroundings.
The Huskies sent University of Arkansas pitcher, Sam Murphy
(pictured left), to the mound on Summer St. Patrick's Day in
Duluth and Murphy seemed to have trouble commanding the strike
zone early in the first as early walks led to an early Battle
Creek lead in the first inning. Unfortunately for the home
team that is as close as they would get as Battle Creek continued
to capitalize on the Huskies walks and three errors to claim the
9-2 victory.
The Huskies will have their second ever shot at the Battle Creek
Bombers on Wednesday night in Duluth as the Huskies are presenting
another Arby's Roast Beef Wednesday. The first 500 fans
through the gates will receive a coupon good for a buy one get one
free roast beef sandwich from Arby's in Duluth.

Huskies Bust Out
The Bats, Fall Short
June 16, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies entered their game on Monday night at Wade
Stadium in Duluth against the Rochester Honkers mired in a
franchise record six-game losing streak and they put up a valiant
effort to snap the streak before it hit game seven, but eventually
fell short of that dropping the game by the score of 8-7.
Things were looking tough for Duluth early as the visiting Honkers
jumped out to a 5-0 lead and it would have been easy for a team
that has lost six straight games to hang their head and give up,
but the Duluth Huskies proved to have the heart of a champion
embedded deep inside as they quickly pounced back into
the
game putting up three runs in the bottom of the third and two more
in the fourth tying the game at 5-5 before taking a 7-5 lead over
Rochester with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Unfortunately for the Huskies, the Honkers battled back putting up
three runs of their own in the top of the eight to take the 8-7
lead that they wouldn't surrender.
The player with the biggest impact in the game for the Huskies was
easily newcomer Grant Muncrief (pictured left) from Wichita
State University who entered the game with two outs in the third
inning and the Huskies already trailing 5-0 and proceed to
absolutely slam the door on the Honkers posting zeros for 3 1/3
innings allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out six.
Relief pitcher Mitch Mormann also made his Huskies debut in
the game and worked 1 1/3 innings allowing three runs, all earned,
without allowing a hit while walking four batters.
Mormann also struck out two Honkers and threw one wild pitch.
Brant Combs worked 2/3 of an inning allowing three hits and
Erik Anderson, from the University of Nebraska, pitched a
scoreless ninth to finish the game for Duluth without allowing a
hit or walking a batter and striking out one.
At the plate the Huskies broke out the bats with seven runs on 12
hits, but still came up just one big hit short. Right
fielder Andrew Durden (pictured right) was the offensive
leader with 4 for 4 night with one RBI while second baseman
Thomas Nichols contributed a hit and two RBIs. Chris
House, Todd Baumgartner, and Tim Jobe each also
added two hits with Baumgartner and Jobe each adding
a RBI.
The Huskies continue their homestand Tuesday night when the Battle
Creek Bombers make their first ever appearance in Duluth.
Tuesday is the Huskies Summer St. Patrick's Day Celebration
brought to you by Carmody's Irish Pub and Budweiser. Gates
open at 6:05 PM for both Tuesday and Wednesday's games against the
Bombers.

Offensive Struggle
Continues for Duluth
June 15, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies returned to historic Wade Stadium in Duluth,
Minnesota on Sunday afternoon to face off against the Rochester
Honkers on a Father's Day Family Fun Day at the Wade.
Unfortunately for the Huskies the sight of a bright sun in the
Duluth skies combined with a crowd of 1,175 eager baseball fans in
Duluth were enough to snap the current losing streak that reached
a franchise high of six games when all
was
said and done and the Huskies were on the short end of a 7-1
score.
The Huskies sent University of Kansas starter T.J. Walz
(pictured left)to the mound for another start and Omaha, Nebraska
native threw great for the first five innings of the game, but
seemed to run out of gas in the sixth as Rochester was able to
mount a 5-0 lead by the end of the 6th inning. For the game,
Walz worked five innings allowing five runs, four of them
earned, on four hits, while walking three and striking out seven.
He also hit one batter. Walz was then relieved by
Huskies relief pitcher extraordinaire, Brant Combs, who
worked out the next three innings without allowing a single Honker
hit and without walking a batter. Combs also struck out
three. Evan Cox, from the University of Arkansas,
worked the final inning surrendering two more Honkers runs, both
earned, on three hits while walking one.
Offensively the Huskies mounted a bit of a rally in the bottom of
the ninth inning, but it proved little too late as they were only
able to force across one run. Designated hitter Steve
Chatwood and left fielder Todd Baumgartner each went 2
for 4 on the game with Tim Jobe getting the lone RBI and
Andy Burns scoring the lone Huskies run.
The Huskies and Honkers will face off again tomorrow night at Wade
Stadium in Duluth at 7:05 PM for Bark in the Park presented by
KOOL 101.7 and Animal Allies. Josh Godfrey (pictured
right) will take to the hill for the Huskies looking to break the
current six-game losing streak. The Huskies will continue to
play at the Wade on Tuesday and Wednesday night's, both scheduled
for 7:05 PM starts, as the Battle Creek Bombers will make their
first ever appearances in Duluth's Wade Stadium.

Walks and Errors
Spell Huskies Doom
June 15, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies finished off their six-game road trip with a
final match-up against the Mankato MoonDogs on Saturday night in
Mankato, Minnesota. The proved resilient battling back from
an early deficit, but on t he
night the 12 walks issued by Huskies pitchers coupled with the
five errors in the field proved to be too much for Duluth to
overcome as they fell to the host MoonDogs by the score of 6-4.
Offensively the Huskies and MoonDogs each had only five hits on
the game with the Huskies offensive leader being shortstop Andy
Burns (pictured left) who went 2 for 4 with a run scored and 2
RBIs, including a solo homerun in the top of the eighth inning,
his second homerun of the year. Third baseman Robby Price
added a hit and a run scored while second baseman Thomas
Nichols also had a hit and a RBI. Left fielder Ty
Main added the other hit to the Huskies cause.
On the mound, Duluth sent second year Huskie, Mike Nesseth
(0-1), to the hill for his second start of the season.
Nesseth worked only 2 2/3 innings allowing two unearned runs
on one hit while walking six and striking out three. He was
relieved by Matt Benedict who worked the next 3 1/3 innings
allowing four more MoonDog runs, three of the earned, on three
hits while walking four and striking out three. Brad
Buehler worked out of the pen for the final two innings
without allowing a run while surrendering only one hit while
walking two and striking out two.
The Huskies return home to the friendly confines of Wade Stadium
on Sunday, Father's Day, as they take on the Rochester Honkers in
the first of a two game set starting at 4:05 PM. The Huskies
will play their next four games at the Wade with the Battle Creek
Bombers making their first ever appearance in Duluth on Tuesday
and Wednesday night's, both games scheduled to start at 7:05 PM.

Huskies Road Woes
Continue
June 14, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies faced off against the North Division leading
Mankato MoonDogs for the first time in 2008 on Friday night in
Mankato, Minnesota and found themselves in a dog fight for much of
the game. Starting
pitcher
Aaron Barrett (pictured left), a 20th Round draft pick of
the Minnesota Twins, went toe to toe with the MoonDogs starter
trading zeros on the scoreboard for much of the game.
Barrett gave way to reliever Brant Combs (1-2) with
one out in the sixth inning and the Huskies and division leading
MoonDogs tied at one run apiece. Combs would work
through the sixth and seventh and one out into the eighth when he
gave way to Erik Anderson from the University of Nebraska
to get out of a jam. The Huskies had scored one in the top
of the eighth to give themselves a 2-1 lead over Mankato, but
untimely walks led to a big three run inning for the MoonDogs in
the bottom of the frame. For the game Combs worked
two innings allowing two runs, both earned, on one hit while
walking one and striking out one. Anderson worked 1/3
of an inning allowing one earned run on no hits while walking two
and reliever Evan Cox worked the final 1/3 of an inning
without a run charged to his credit while walking two. In
the end the MoonDogs were able to hold on for the 4-2 win over
Duluth.
The loss put the Huskies at 1-8 through their first nine road
games of the season and dropped them to 5-10 overall, now 6 1/2
games behind the division leading MoonDogs.

At the plate on Friday night the Huskies were led by newcomer,
second baseman, Thomas Nichols (pictured right) from
Georgia Tech, who went 2 for 4 in his Huskies debut.
Designated hitter Ty Main added the Huskies only other hit
of the evening.
The Huskies will face off against the MoonDogs again on Saturday
night in Mankato looking to salvage a series split before
returning home to start a four game homestand, beginning with the
Rochester Honkers at the Wade at 4:05 PM on Sunday afternoon.

Huskies Move on to
Mankato
June 13, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies sent newcomer Brad Buehler (0-1) to the
mound for his Northwoods League debut on Thursday night in
Rochester, Minnesota, and the host Honkers were quick to give
Buehler a welcome to one of the most prestigious wood bat
leagues in the country.
The Honkers pushed across two runs in the bottom of the first
inning, both unearned, off of Buehler but were still able
to chase the Huskies starter after only 1 1/3 innings of work.
For the game Buehler went 1 1/3 allowing two unearned runs
on two hits while walking four and not striking out a batter.
Sam Murphy, from the University of Arkansas came in to
settle things down, and with the Huskies trailing 2-0.
Murphy worked the next 4 2/3 innings allowing one earned run
