Huskies Beat North Division
Champs
The Huskies (11-23) beat the
Rochester Honkers (23-12) in the bottom of the ninth 7-6 on Sunday. Duluth
trailed 6 to 4 heading into the bottom of the 8th inning when they
scored 2 runs to tie the game. In the bottom of the 9th inning Zach
Walters (San Diego) scored the winning run on a game winning double by Zac Elgie
(Kansas) off the left field wall.
Starting pitcher Drew Benes (Arkansas
St) threw 5 innings allowing 5 runs (3ER) on 8 hits. Mark Shaver (UMD) pitched
3 solid innings giving up 1 run on 2 hits. Matt Patterson (Creighton) got the
win pitching the 9th allowing 0 hits.
Duluth had 10 hits
on the night, and Pete Cappetta (Illinois) had 2 hits with 3 RBI. Todd
Baumgartner (Arkansas St) and Elgie also had 2 hits apiece. Duluth takes on
Rochester again tomorrow night at 7:05 PM to end the regular season.

Duluth Gets Swept
The Duluth Huskies (10-23) got
shutout by the Thunder Bay Border Cats (17-15) by a final score of 6-0. Border
Cats starting pitcher Randy Mower (St Josephs) threw a complete game only
allowing 4 hits. Huskies starting pitcher Drew Smyly (Arkansas) went 6 innings
giving up 5 runs on 9 hits. Josh Foreman (UMD) pitched the remainder of the
game allowing 1 run on 3 hits.
The Huskies Pete
Cappetta (Illinois) was their only bright spot at the plate going 3 for 3.
Jared Womack (Oklahoma St) hit a double getting the Huskies only other hit.
Duluth takes on Rochester in a 2 game series to end the regular season starting
tomorrow at 5:05 PM.

Huskies Lose A Wet One
The Duluth Huskies (10-22) lost to
the Thunder Bay Border Cats (16-15) 7-5 on a raining night at the Wade.
Starting pitcher Tyler Clark (Missouri) threw 5 and 1/3 innings giving up 6 runs
(3ER) on 9 hits. Brodie Brumley (Harding) pitched 3 and 2/3 innings giving up 1
run on 0 hits.
Duluth had 9 hits
on the night and Zac Elgie (Kansas) went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI leading the team.
Jerico Weitzel (Florida) also had 3 hits on the night, and Jared Womack
(Oklahoma St) went 2 for 3. Duluth takes on Thunder Bay again tomorrow at 7:05
PM.

Huskies Split Series With Mankato
The Duluth Huskies
(10-21) lost to the Mankato MoonDogs (15-16) 5-3 on Thursday
night. Starting pitcher RJ Fondon (Florida Intl) threw 7 innings
giving up 5 runs on 11 hits. Matt Harrison (UNC) came into the
game in the 8th inning and threw 2 shutout innings.
The
Huskies scored 3 runs on 10 hits during the game. Pete Cappetta
(Illinois) led the team going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Zac Elgie
(Kansas) Jeff Reynolds (Harvard) each had an RBI double. Duluth
takes on Thunder Bay tomorrow at 7:05 PM.

Huskies Win In Ten
The Duluth Huskies
(10-20) beat the Mankato MoonDogs (14-16) 2-1 in 10 innings
Wednesday night. Duluth won when Todd Baumgartner (Arkansas St)
laced a single up the middle scoring Pete Cappetta (Illinois).
The team was carried by starting pitcher Sean Yost (Nebraska)
who threw 8 innings allowing 1 run on 6 hits. The game was tied
when Yost left the game, and Brodie Brumley got the win pitching
the 10th giving up 1 hit.
Baumgartner led the team with 4 hits one being the game winning
single. Five other Huskie hitters each had 1 hit apiece, and
Andy Burns (Kentucky) roped a home run over the left field
wall. Zac Elgie (Kansas) also added to the hits with a double.
Duluth takes on Mankato again tomorrow at 7:05 PM.

Huskies Get Swept In Brainerd
The Duluth Huskies
(9-20) lost to the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers (15-14) 9-5 after
losing an early 3-0 lead. Huskie starting pitcher Drew Benes
(Arkansas St) threw 4 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs on 7 hits.
The game was tied when Brodie Brumley (Harding) came in pitching
1 1/3 innings giving up 4 runs (2ER) on 5 hits.
Duluth had 9 hits in the game, and were led by Zac Elgie
(Kansans) who went 2 for 4. Zach Walters (San Diego) and David
Amberson (Everett CC) added to the hits both getting doubles.
Huskies head home to take on Mankato at 7:05 PM on Wednesday.

Huskies Get Beat In Brainerd
The Duluth Huskies (9-19) lost to the
Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers (14-14) 9-5 on Monday night. The Huskies had 10
hits, but also left 10 runners on base. Duluth’s starting pitcher Drew Smyly
(Arkansas) threw 6 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. Matt Patterson
(Creighton) got the loss throwing 1 inning allowing 2 runs (1ER) on 3 hits.
Andy Burns
(Kentucky) and Todd Baumgartner (Arkansas St) each had 2 hits apiece with
Baumgartner getting a double. Pete Cappetta (Illinois) and Zac Elgie (Kansas)
also recorded doubles on the night. The Huskies take on Brainerd again tonight
at 7:05 PM.

Duluth Loses Late Lead
Duluth (8-17) lost to the St. Cloud
River Bats (15-8) in the 10th inning last night by a final score of
3-2. The Huskies led the whole game until Alex Kent (Central Missouri) gave up
2 runs in the bottom of the 9th. The River Bats won in the 10th
when there was an overthrow by the Huskie catcher allowing Matt Summers (UC
Irvine) to score.
Huskie starting
pitcher Sean Yost (Nebraska) threw 6 scoreless innings allowing 5 hits with 7
strikeouts. Matt Harrison (UNC) went 2 for 3 on the night leading Duluth. Zac
Elgie (Kansas) also had a good night at the plate going 2 for 4. The Huskies
head to Alexandria to take on the Beetles at 7:05 PM.

Duluth Comes Up Short
The Duluth Huskies (8-15) lost a
close game to the Rochester Honkers (16-7) by a final score on 4-3. The Huskies
tried to rally in the bottom of the 9th inning with a lead off double
by Zac Elgie (Kansas), his second of the game, but couldn’t get the run across
the plate. Starting pitcher Drew Benes (Arkansas St) threw 4 and 1/3 innings
allowing 4 runs on 8 hits.
Duluth had 9 hits
in the game, but couldn’t get the big hit when it was needed. Three Huskie
hitters had 2 hits each, and three players had doubles. Zach Walters (San
Diego) Jeff Reynolds (Harvard) and Jerico Weitzel (Florida) had the 3 RBI of the
game. Duluth heads to St. Cloud tomorrow to take on the River Bats.

The Huskies Shutout Rochester
The Duluth Huskies (8-14) defeated
the Rochester Honkers (15-7) 2-0 on a solid pitching performance. Starting
pitcher Justin Leith (Florida Intl) threw 5 great innings giving up 0 runs and
only 1 hit. Justin’s pitching performance got him his first win of the season.
Matt Patterson (Creighton) came into the game in the 9th inning to
pick up his 9th save. The Huskie pitchers only allowed 2 hits on the
night.
Duluth brought the
sticks to the park getting a total of 10 hits. Four of the Huskie hitters each
had 2 hits apiece, and newcomer Jeff Reynolds (Harvard) was one of them. The 2
RBI of the game came off of the bats of Jared Womack (Oklahoma St) and Zac Elgie
(Kansas). The Huskies try to keep the hot bats alive tomorrow night when they
take on Rochester again at 7:05 PM.

Huskies Get Swept By Thunder Bay
The Duluth Huskies (7-14) lost to the
Thunder Bay Border Cats (10-10) on Sunday by a score of 4-2. Thunder Bay’s
starting pitcher Tyler Powell (Belmont Abbey) threw 7 strong innings allowing 2
runs (1ER) on 7 hits. The Border Cats hitters were led by Curtis Wagner (Santa
Clara) who went 3 for 4.
Duluth’s starting
pitcher Tyler Clark (Missouri) threw 5 innings allowing 4 runs on 8 hits. He
got himself into trouble by allowing leadoff batters to reach base. Chris
Jensen (San Diego) threw 4 good innings allowing 0 run on 2 hits. Pete Cappetta
(Illinois) and Andy Burns (Kentucky) both went 2 for 4 on the night leading the
Huskies. The Huskies take on Rochester tomorrow night at 7:05 PM at Wade
Stadium.
