Errors Lead to Huskies Loss

July 18, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies

The Duluth Huskies returned to Wade Stadium for the first time in nearly a week when the Brainerd Blue Thunder made the trip to Duluth for a two game series set for Friday and Saturday night.  Friday brought a great crowd of 3,405 fans to the Wade on Superior Night featuring nationally known mascot act Rally presented by the Superior Jaycee's, unfortunately for the host Huskies and the many fans, tough errors and the lack of the big hit led to a Huskies loss by the score of 8-0.

The Huskies sent new starting pitcher Matt Hauer, who will be attending the University of San Diego in the fall, to the mound for his first start of the season and he worked well after a shaky first inning and went on to set down 14 straight Blue Thunder batters.  Unfortunately unearned runs created a hole that was too much for the Huskies batters to get out of.

The Huskies hitters were led by outfielder Ty Main (pictured left) who had two hits and reached on a walk.  Overall the offense actually outhit the Blue Thunder eight to seven but the four Huskies errors and strong Brainerd pitching led to the third straight Huskies loss to Brainerd.

These same two teams will face off against each other again on Saturday when T.J. Walz (pictured right) from the University of Kansas will make the start on the mound on Mini Bat Night presented by Minnesota Forest Industries and Minnesota Timber Producers as the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free Duluth Huskies mini bat courtesy of the Minnesota Forest Industries and Minnesota Timber Producers.  Gates will open at 6:05 PM on Saturday.

The Huskies homestand will continue on Sunday for a 4:05 PM game when Cost Cutters Family Hair Salons will presents Cost Cutters Baseball Hat Giveaway when the first 500 fans through the gates will receive a free baseball hat from Cost Cutters.  Gates open on Sunday at 3:05 PM.
